Welcome To No Hope County (PS4)

Far Cry: New Dawn is Ubisoft's adventure into a world of pink paint and nuclear Armageddon. Though you can find generic squad mates at nearly every turn, you will likely spend most of your time using the nine specialist” teammates — special characters with a backstory, personality, and special skills. That story takes place on an open-world map that, in true Ubisoft fashion, is packed with so much to find and so much happening at any given time it's easy to get distracted from the mission at hand.

Hopefully the upcoming Bloody Palace update will allow a 2 and 3 player variant of the Palace with beefed up enemies. As usual for a Far Cry title, you also have a smattering of collectibles, outposts, treasure hunts, and random events spread across the map, Youtube Gaming which encourages you to explore the new Hope County while dodging Highwaymen and mutated wildlife.

New Dawn is a standalone game, but it's not a one-off experiment in the mold of the cyberpunk-tinged Blood Dragon or the Stone Age-themed Far Cry Primal It's more of a small, direct sequel to Far Cry 5. The good thing is that, while New Dawn looks and feels incredibly familiar, it manages to mostly get away from the narrative and thematic issues that plagued Far Cry 5. It doesn't pretend to have anything to say.

I began my time with the game knowing I would be pursuing stealth tactics, so I immediately set off toward the given location of a Specialist who would complement that playstyle. Although they'll only retain their character progression in their own game, not story progression.

The game also features a map editor, a co-operative multiplayer mode, and a competitive multiplayer mode. But Far Cry 5 feels much more of an open-world game in which you are, to an extent, crafting your own story. For the most part, Far Cry continues to deliver the goods when it comes to fun and dynamic open world gameplay for the little Rambo-wannabe inside you.
